Reminiscing an Immersive Experience at a Broadcasting Station

“ If there’s anything that’s important to a reporter, it is integrity. It is credibility. – Mark Wallace “

The Japan Broadcasting Corporation, also known as NHK, is a Japanese public broadcaster. NHK is a statutory corporation funded by viewers’ payments of a television license fee.

The primary purpose of broadcasting media is to broadcast and communicate with the public. It lets the masses know about everything that happens around the world, as well as it is used for entertaining people. In simple words, it can be called the whole package of broadcasting information, entertainment, and news.In its most common form, broadcasting may be described as the systematic dissemination of entertainment, information, educational programming, and other features for simultaneous reception by a scattered audience with appropriate receiving apparatus.

In this experience, we learned about the important traits of a good newscaster. First is having good communication skills which includes the ability to speak on camera, write, and communicate in a team environment. Communication skills are also key in creating a newscast as a television broadcast requires teamwork in front of and behind the camera. Second is having passion as the modern viewing public can spot insincerity very easily, being earnest and truly involved allows one to form a connection with the audience. Next, the  ability to get to the bottom of a story, get relevant information, and ask the right questions to get the answers needed from the people interviewed are all part of being a good broadcaster. Thus, being able to meet deadlines and handle the pressure such an environment brings is an essential personality trait to have in broadcasting. Also, news doesn’t take time off and social media allows people to be engaged with current events 24/7. Because of this, social media skills and being able to navigate social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook are key skills to have. In addition to this, it is best to have good leadership skills because being a lead TV anchor or show host is a prestigious position and with that comes responsibility. As experience is gained,  helping guide and shaping the broadcast as well as mentoring younger reporters and producers are done behind the scenes. Lastly, having integrity or  humanity is also deemed essential because as a television broadcaster, one is not just reporting on events, one is telling the stories of people in the community and beyond. Even in the age of the 24-hour news cycle, being a good person is still of utmost importance as it comes across onscreen.
